From the time of consultation to the operation Mr Shankar was professional and understanding.
The operation was a success and he expressed that it was up to me now to strengthen my leg and work on my exercises.
I was walking unaided after 2 weeks and back to work ,and back in the gym doing fitness classes after 8 weeks.
I have full mobility now and no more pain in my knee.
If I need any further work to my knee in the future I would not hesitate to use Mr Shankar again .

The whole experience was exceptional from the several appointments prior to my operation. I was given full details of what was going to happen. On the day of admission everything couldn’t have gone better I had a partial knee replacement within an hour and a half I was in the operating theatre then an hour and a half later, I was back in my room after having a spinal epidural which I would definitely recommend the food and the service throughout my stay was 2nd to none.
I had to have several appointments after the operation regarding the wound but from phoning up to going back, there was only several hours and six months later, I have to say it was the best experience, and without a shadow of a doubt, Mr Shankar was exceptional.
I must also mention that all the nurses and all the backroom staff were exceptional also.

Mr.Shankar is a lovely doctor. My first visit, I felt was rushed and a MRI image took 31/2 months to get the result from one practice to him. when my surgery was completed and it was my review visit ( 4 weeks later), he was answering my questions and he was very caring and assuring.

Mr Shankar listened to my concerns about my hip replacement surgery, explaining the process and how I could play my part to improve my recovery. I requested a general anaesthetic as I did not wish to hear any noise of the operation nor be awake. Having discussed the pros and cons of the general anaesthetic with the anaesthetist and Mr Shankar we agreed on the use of a general anaesthetic. The operation went smoothly and I woke up later remembering nothing of the operation.
Before I was discharged I discussed my aftercare with Mr Shankar, again I had a few questions which he was able to answer. The whole team that assisted at Spire during the operation and the time I was in hospital were excellent, seemed a very close team, each knowing their job and very willing to make my stay comfortable and give me confidence in achieving a good outcome. Two weeks after the operation I am walking use one crutch and able to sleep soundly at night. I am extremely grateful to all of the staff for their professional care.

I am a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with special interest in Computer navigation assisted and Robotic Hip and knee replacement. I routinely perform knee arthroscopic procedures, knee cartilage reconstruction procedures including PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) injection.
I work as a NHS consultant at Barking, Havering and Redbridge Hospital. My work is based at Queens Hospital, Romford and King George Hospital, Good Mayes.
I obtained my higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics on the North East Thames and London Deanery on the prestigious Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) rotation.
I trained in University hospitals like RNOH and the Great Ormond Street Hospital. I obtained trauma training at one of the London’s major trauma centre, the Royal London Hospital. I also obtained training in various district general hospitals in London and Essex.
I am Fellowship trained. My UK fellowships were the prestigious RNOH, Stanmore lower limb arthroplasty fellowship.
Armed with evidence of innovation in the form of computed assisted and robotic lower limb arthroplasty to aid provision of best outcomes for my arthroplasty patients, I completed my fellowship at The Golden Jubilee Hospital, Glasgow in computer navigation assisted hip and knee arthroplasty fellowship.
To further my experience, I completed a travelling fellowship in Germany in Rummelsberg in the reputed unit of Professor Wagner with experience in anterior approach hip arthroplasty. I have clinical and academic links with the unit

I have published in peer review journals and presented in many international and national orthopaedic conferences.I am a reviewer of original articles in Indian journal of Orthopaedics.
Further to my mandatory qualifications of MRCS, FRCSEd (Tr & Orth), I have completed my MSc (Tr &Orth) from the University College of London. I have also completed a formal Diploma in Computer assisted Orthopaedic surgery.
I use computer navigated and robotic surgery, which increases the accuracy of hip and knee replacement surgery further to improve the longevity of the artificial joint. My expertise in the computer navigation technology improves the functional outcome of my hip and knee replacement patients.
